Head Coach Brandon Phillips enters his 3rd season at the helm of Life School Oak Cliff and his 16th year as a coach and educator. As an educator Brandon has worked in Minneapolis and St. Paul Public Schools and in Cedar Hill ISD working with students from 2nd grade to high school. Currently his talents are being used in Physical education at Life School.
Coach Phillips believes in developing the complete student-athlete. He insists upon Academic Excellence first and foremost. His student-athletes also become better people who contribute to our community and they also become superior athletes that are able to compete at the highest levels.
Coach Phillips has been a part of many wins in his coaching career. While working in Minnesota, Brandon was the head basketball coach at Edison High School in Minneapolis Public schools. He successfully turned around a struggling program that had only won one game prior to his stint. Over the course of the next 5 years, he improved the win total each year and amassed a total of 35 wins. Brandon also served as an Assistant Coach at Concordia University (NCAA Division II) in St. Paul, Minnesota for 4 seasons. He was in charge of recruiting in Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
At Cedar Hill High School, Phillips served as a Varsity Assistant and JV Head coach. During the 2010-2011 season the Longhorns went 33-3 and were District, Bi-District, Area, and Regional Champions. His JV teams defeated every other team in the district and won 20+ games each season under his leadership.
A native of Dallas, Brandon graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. He earned his Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning at St. Mary's University (Winona, Minnesota). He is an active member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, and Texas Basketball Coaches. Brandon played four years and redshirted one at the College of St. Scholastica under the former Coach Jim Datka. He was a part of 70 of 73 wins Datka earned as head coach of the Saints. Coach Phillips resides in Cedar Hill with his wife Alicia, son Landon and daughter Alise.
